i have motor tics to i hate them
-
I am 22. I had more OCD tendencies when I was younger then now. Such as "touching up" for example. if I bump into something with one side, having to even it out on the other. Luckily (sort of) for me, now its just the chronic motor tics that remain, arm jerking+neck stretching, and funny eyebrow movements. The neurologist I saw said a lot of people outgrow tics, but if they haven't by around age 18, chances are they wont (gee lucky me). My best wishes to Jared, keep your head up little guy! :(

How old is Jared? How are his tics doing. I also have chronic motor tics. I can remember having them most of my life. Ive had a lot of diff tics over the years (motor, vocal noises, facial grimaces) and they always seemed to change. not until about a year ago did I decide to go see a neurologist finally because they draw my attention more the older I get (I am now 22). The tics that have "stuck" with me the longest, is the "arm jerk" like Jared, and "neck stretching" which can get very painful.

i wonder if the teacher miskatens him for answering/asking questions

I have been dealing with small tics and twitching every so often my whole life mainly more now that im an adult and i have had ADHD since I was a child. It can be annoying and sometimes i wont have them for a month or so but it can be controled.

my son is 4 years old and he started with the same arm jerking tics when he was 3. We thought maybe it had to do with him starting pre-k or my daughter being born around the same time. He had them for about 3-4 months then they went away. However, just last week he started them again after about 10 months of not doing anything. He hasn't had any big changes in his everyday life so we are not sure what might have triggered it. He did get the flu shot about 3 weeks ago, so not sure.

you sure its tics? because this is what babies usually do

@lav1970 my son is 17 mths & his symptoms r exactly the same. His eeg's & mri was normal. I am being told by his neurologist that he is to young to develop tics? My ped. is telling me we should have him evaluated (developmentally). Do u mind if I ask how your son is doing? I find my son in the middle of the night doing the same thing. I am uploading a video....do u mind to view it & see if u see anything similar. It should be uploaded in the next hour or so. Having hard time uploading?

Hi I am new to u tube but I'm uploading a video of my son. I would really appriciate it if u would look at my sons video & see if u see any similar behavior/tics? I feel like my son is developing tics. He has been to a neurologist & he ruled out seizures. Becuase of his age I feel like we are not getting the help we need. I am scared & at a loss. Your sons arm movements r similar to my sons. Thanks for your help. I should have his video uploaded in a couple hours. Its taking forever?

My son is three and walks everywhere on his toes, has started doing this thing with his eyes lately where he sort of opens them too much like he's tired and trying to keep them open (not a good explanation) and has trouble keeping eye contact when being spoken to, I think maybe I should look into this further
Thank you all for viewing this video. I even got a request from a professor to use it for a college course (hope Jared doesn't end up taking that class, or else I'm going to need more funds for therapy!). I am very grateful that ppl are getting something out of this, if nothing more than just awareness and acceptance.
Thank you again for your comments

At the end you can see him trying to control the tic with the other hand. Its like you almost see alittle uconscious annoyance. If I'm right it would be great for this little boy be taught not to be annoyed by his tics if this develops. He is a cute little boy I hope he never has to suffer because of this. Very perceptive parent.

Thank you. That was very perceptive on your part too! The neurologist noticed it also and told us not to make a big deal out of it. He said that as the kids get older, they will tic and make it look like they were scratching their head or stretching. Jared is almost 4 now and he still tics but I don't notice it unless someone points it out. I am just glad it's not something serious! I gotta say tho, the OCD and ADD are showing up more, so we'll have to deal with that, but it's doable.

Thank you for posting! My son is 3 years old and he does very similar movements shown in the video, except it seems to only happen while trying to drift off to sleep (not during the day). He often wakes up in the middle of the night and shows the movement as well. It can last for minutes to over an hour and makes it hard for him to fall asleep. His EEG was normal. Pediatrician says its just tics, but I'm still a worried parent. Anyone with some advice?

I would highly recommend taping the behavior and seeing a neurologist. These are the vids I made that I showed the pediatrician (cuz of course he won't do the tic at the office!) and the neurologist. There are many kinds of tics and luckily, these are a common type that don't need meds or anything, but they are related to ADD and OCD, so it's good to know what you are dealing with.

fear not! not all tics necessarily evolve into things such as tourette. when watching a movie kids could try and impersonate the film, fidget just to do something while thinking, or show their enthusiasm in a way that they can (rather than talking.)
Much more likely however: children often have 'transient tics', which are tics that go away after a year or so, so in all likelihood this won't lead to Tourette's, and i'm fairly certain it wouldn't lead to add or ocd..

Thank you for your concern. Unfortunately, his neurologist said that these tics *are* related to ADD and OCD. He's had them about 2 yrs now, showing up as tippy-toeing, eye squints, face slapping, and the videoed ones and in different situations while active or quiet. 1 of his parents has OCD tendancies, so the Neuro said it's likely this is genetic. Oh well, if the OCD is anything like the parent's, I look forward to the help with the housework!
