My friend Kurt built this amazing aviary for my 7 little finches! The top half of the aviary has wire mesh. The lower half has Plexiglas. Now my cats can watch and everyone is safe :)

  • Awesome aviary!!! I want to build one myself but I'm concerned about one thing, smell. Is there one, and if so, how do you control it? I have always planned to build an outdoor aviary but this one made me change my mind. Again, great looking home for your little loved ones.

  • @shaguito87 Finches don't make big messes, plus I have less than the max of 20 for the area. There are online calculators for birds vs square footage. Use a washing machine tray ($30) beneath any water. The rest is seed & droppings that are swept up easily. I keep plain newsprint on the floor (see my other responses) and clean the aviary once a week. I've had no problems at all. Only thing we smell is birdseed some days.

  • HI ! that is just beautiful!!

I just wanna know - what do you do with all the droppings and all other mess that pile up on the floor?? i saw this green something you put there?

in other words- how do you keep the floor clean? :)

  • @Lansvacer There is a double thick waterproof tarp that's sealed around all edges to start. Atop that I place either that Eco-friendly disposable green liner or plain newsprint paper (buy it by the box) but there are also plastic washing machine trays (3' square by 2" tall) in some sections where it may get more wet from bird baths. Easy to take out and clean. I clean the aviary regularly and it's easy with this set up.

  • I LOVE THIS!!! GREAT JOB AND I BET THE BIRDS ARE REALLY ENJOYING THEIR NEW SPACE..(HOME)

  • @shebabey72

Hi, Thank you. They really love it. In fact, they're so happy that I sometimes can't talk on my office phone due to all the chirping! it's OK, I'm so glad they're happy :)

  • Thanks, so much for the dedication you did for us. In fact, I have used to have some birds but not anymore and I made a aviary. In fact, it was easy to make the aviary. But, when I didn't know the kind of size I had to start with. I had a hard-time figuring that out.

  • @sam70951 It's plexiglass and can be purchased by the sheet at Home Depot or Lowes. The aviary was designed around the sizes of these sheets so no cutting. Use caution when installing as it cracks easily.

  • Hi where can I get the glass like thing that you put at the bottom of your aviary? And how much is it? Please answer:)

  • Hi where can I get the transparent plastic or glass like thing from? And how much does it cost?

  • This is great! I will be getting a sugar glider soon, and I wanted something for it to glide in. I didn't want to purchase a cage that was actually ment for them because they are really expensive. So I came here and this is great! :) thank u for the help!! :D *My sugar glider is going to be so happy!*

  • @shaguito87 you have to keep it clean. that's the only way to control the smell. I had a large aviary. Poop off wipes also make it a lot easier.

  • You did a lovely job. Love it!

  • wow, this looks great :)
