  • Wasnt the set used originally for the 1925 Silent Film Version of Phantom of the Opera starring the Man of a Thousand Faces Lon Chaney ?

  • @WDI2008: I think so.

  • hummm... why are the character's last names different?!?!?! and why is Raoul an inpecteur intead of a viscount!!! this is like so different compared with the book itself!!! personaly i don't understand why this movie is called an ADAPTATION! anyway it's cool to see how old movies like this one were made! thanks for the videos!

  • Yeah, it's a bit weird how they change the names so much. That said, they do that in most of the movie versions.

    And you're welcome! :D

  • "Based on" does not mean "adapted from." Check the credits at the beginning. More or less, it draws inspiration from the original story, but takes it in a very different direction (and an interesting one for being made when Universal wasn't in the habit of taking any risks). Of course, this all depends on your interpretation of the film. I would consider it the most interesting story in the Universal monster line-up.

  • I agree. I think that if all the Phantom films followed the same plot and had the same interpretation of Erik, it would be pretty boring (and there would be no point of them adapting it so often).

  • @WDI2008 YES SOUNDSTAGE I THINK 20 OR 28 I WAS SUPPOSED TO BE TORN DOWN BUT THEY WERE AFRAID BECAUSE SOME THINK ITS STILL HAUNTED BY LON CHANEY GHOST

  • acording to A. L. Webber this is a remake of the chaney version

  • this movie blows, give me the hammer version, hebet lom

  • @cubsfaninstlouis: that Is the problem w the world today. People love modern, boring music, sung by breathy voices, but despise beautiful music, sung by strong, rich voices. Especially the opera Marta.

  • good movie but can't live up to the lon chaney version. this one seemed more like a romance while the 1925 film was much more of a horror film.

  • like mr burns would say, interesting....

  • I love this movie. It is better than the Lloyd -Weber musical. I love that opera Martha which is sung by Nelson Eddy at the opening It is the greatest comic opera. Unfortunately, it is not popular today.

  • The music in this version is simply delightful!

  • This is my favorite Film Version of the Phantom of the Opera.

  • @WDI2008 Yes it is, although they white-washed it.
