The Apollo 11 mission was the first manned mission to land on the Moon. It was the fifth human spaceflight of the Apollo programme and the third human voyage to the Moon.

Launched on 16 July 1969, it carried Commander Neil Alden Armstrong, Command Module Pilot Michael Collins and Lunar Module Pilot Edwin Eugene 'Buzz' Aldrin, Jr.

On 20 July, Armstrong and Aldrin became the first humans to land on the Moon, while Collins orbited above.

The mission fulfilled President John F. Kennedy's goal of reaching the moon by the end of the 1960s: "I believe that this nation should commit itself to achieving the goal, before this decade is out, of landing a man on the Moon and returning him safely to the Earth".

  • It sickens me to see Americans doubt the exceptionalism of their own country. On July 20th 1969 the entire world stood still to watch in wonder as AMERICANS landed and then walked on the moon. The scientific and engineering genius of the men responsible for it and the bravery of our astronauts has now become something to sneer at from pimply-faced, under-educated, lazy, out of shape, self-serving pinheads.

You don't deserve to call yourselves AMERICANS!

  • What would you know..Mythbusters have put that old chestnut to rest..In yr Face Apollo Consipiracy "Theorists"!!

    Dude I was being sarcastic

  • @Blahblobify The reason you cant see the stars is because the sun is so bright it blocks out the other stars light.

  • "One small step for man one fiant leap for mankind" sound like something you would hear in porn XD

  • Great step. Great step forward for mankind.

  • @Max300029

Oh Holy Shit there's no stars it must be fake

  • @TheShadowander, "Amerika" is doing pretty well these days. Unemployment is 8% (similar to Russia); Inflation is 3% (Russia's is 7%); Fuel costs about the same; The US has 10 times as many aircraft carriers and twice as many fighter jets than Russia.

I just don't see "Amerika" dying any time soon ;)

  • @Max300029, the "dust" was in the 1st camera angle, so they switched to the 2nd angle. All smoke and flames were funneled in 2 opposite directions through a flame trench built under the launch pad (basically north and south). Looking from the west where the press site is, the smoke cloud is out of the way. (Yes, I have been to several launches)

  • Look at 0:33! Suddenly there's no dust anymore
