Character Voices & Sound Effects - History Behind SSBM

Shows where some of the character voices come from and how they were originally used in the source games. Some characters had original voice actors from other sources, so I also compare those characters' voices.

I recommend watching it in high quality if you can.

I did my best to find where the characters made the same sounds that they make in Melee, but this was MUCH MORE DIFFICULT than what I thought it would be. I tried to exhaust every possibility that I could think of, but I could not find every single voice act and sound effect. And to make things worse, most of time the things the characters do in their original games aren't the same as what they do in Melee when they make the same sound, which made it even harder to find every single one.

Also, in some cases, the character voices don't sound exactly the same, but are still really similar. In those cases, it makes me wonder if the voices were rerecorded. I also know that there are a few comparisons in the video that don't sound very much alike. When I was searching for these in their original games, I had trouble remembering what I was searching for exactly, so I captured everything. Even when I was putting the video together, I still didn't remember what one sounded like when I was listening to the other. So a few got put together that I didn't realize didn't sound alike until I quickly listened to one right after the other after the video was edited.

Anyway, if you find one that I missed, first double check to make sure that the same sound is made in both the original game and Melee and then feel free to point it out.

just extra: the japanese voice actors for fox and falco did ALL the sound effects for fox and falco (like smash attack grunts, etc.) including the taunts "come on" and victory "mission complete" spoken in english. the only roles for their english counterparts is the cutscene in adventure mode in english and secret call-up that you can do on venom and the mothership on english mode.

10:18 Yeah, such as Togepi's sound that it makes after being released from a Pokeball in SSBM is almost the same as the sound Togepi makes during its appearance as a "Who's That Pokemon?". ("Who's That Pokemon is just something that was added to the Pokemon anime when it was localized. They show a silhouette of a Pokemon before commercial break and then after the break they show you who it is)
