Chris De Burgh to play in Iran TV

If he is granted permission to perform, the Lady In Red singer will be the first Western artist to play in Iran since the country's 1979 revolution.

Although the concert is not yet confirmed De Burgh is expected to return to Iran for further discussions in the coming months.

Speaking in a press conference, De Burgh said that, "I'm here to sing for people. I'm not here for any political reasons."

Chris De Burgh, the son of a British diplomat, was born in Argentina in 1948. Travelling extensively as a child, De Burgh moved to Emerald Isle, Ireland when he was 12.

His biggest hit was the 1986 song Lady In Red that scored a No. 1 chart position in the UK and No. 3 in the US.
