@twilliger123 I guess everyone has their opinion. I'm just glad the school figures were abolished, best thing to happen to figure skating, since it was obviously not fair to a skater to skate so incredibly well and because of not tracing a figure perfectly it costs them the whole competition.
@NettieKay I can, that was back when you had school figures, short and long programs. Midrori fucked up her school figures so it was pretty much over for her. Jill was best at figures, messed up in the short but came back well enough in the long to win. You don't see beautiful edging or lines anymore now that they got rid of school figures, it made good skaters great well rounded skaters.
I liked her smoothness a LOT, but when I watch her programs it seems she relies on the whole elegant, sexy, sequence look a little too much. Plus, I hate to say it but her gold win at the 1990 worlds was such a farce that it's hard to really admire her talent. She lost both the short and the long programs to Midori Ito, and only won the gold b/c of the ridiculous "school figures." Ito was landing all triples, including axle, while Jill could barely get the flip landed most of the time. Odd
Her choreography was good for that day and time, but it was nowhere as good as Kristi's. Jill skated with impressive speed and she had a lot of good skills, but she was more or less unable to compete. Jill that she had the will and the shoulder pads to compete, but not the nerves and not the resourcefulness. She was kind of complacent and self-satisfied; and who can blame her? She was beautiful and she skated very well. Just not at the level that was coming.
@NettieKay and that's your opinion, even though it's WRONG.

Nothing against Jill, but she really should not have won the gold, it really belonged to Midori. I don't think anyone can really argue that.

Jill was a stylish skater, such beautiful posture and such expressive arms. She came into her own when figures still ruled the day.
