Here's hoping this Daybreak Express takes off this very daybreak to help kick off a great weekend - Lord knows I'm due. ;)
One of the finest recorded & pressed 78's I've ever heard - full, crisp & rock solid.
And Duke's outfit ain't bad at all, either. ;)
Dig.....
@JazzyBlues420 Check out "Vince Giordano's Nighthawks;" they might have this in their "book."
They're also on "Facebook."

It's really "Tiger Rag" reworked so Ellington wouldn't have to pay a royalty plus he could collect one (without having to share it with Irving Mills, either).
Great section work by the brass with valve-trombonist Juan Tizol playing together with the trumpets at 1:29
Wartime pressing on re-processed shellac.
Nice!

This recording is what turned me on to Ellington's music when I first heard it on a CD played on the radio. I now have 400 or 500 Ellington CDs and a couple of webpages devoted to the man and his music. I agree with hremdldw that the man was a freaking genius, but listen as well to how tight that young band was.
