Killing George Romero takes some time and a lot of damage. I've got two clips of me killing him. The first time I used two death machines, several shots from mustang and sally, some PhD Flopper dolphin dives, and finally several shots from the scavenger. The second time I got lucky with death machines, and unloaded three into him to bring him down. Death machines seem to be the best thing to use on him. You can tell when he's wounded because his light starts flashing orange instead of staying blue all the time.
Just keep at it, he'll go down eventually!
For the easter egg that lets you free the original guys, there are several steps that are different if you are playing solo vs playing with others. There are more steps if you are playing co-op.
Here is a link to the steps you need for either solo or co-op, as stolen from Gamefaqs:

I may post a looping strategy later on.. I'm still working out what to do on this map. There are several things that make looping to a high level kind of tough:
1. George Romero gets in your way
2. No traps when you run out of ammo
3. Can't switch weapons when you have the wunderwaffe
I've run a few different loops on here, and getting a nice kite going isn't that hard, but keeping it going from level to level when George catches up is a little trickier. Particularly when he gets hit with splash damage from a dolphin dive, or mustang and sally. The temperamental jerk. :P He only stays away for one round when you kill him, and it takes several rounds to be able to take him down, so he's kind of a pain.. but I'll see what I can come up with. :P

George can't actually kill you, just saying.

@Vykerie He killed me on round one before any zombies had spawned. I ran up to him and started knifing him because I heard the zombies would spawn quicker if you did that. He swung at me and I went down in two shocks (or possibly hits) in rapid succession. I was in the water at the time, so that might have played a role too..
