Here's a tip for the dumbbell Chest Press. A lot of people have been asking how to get in and out of position for this exercise when lifting heavy weights.

So, when pressing heavy dumbbells, start by sitting on the bench with the dumbbells resting on your thighs, close to your abdomen. Next, slowly lean back and then you are in the start position.

Once you have finished all the reps, when the dumbbells are in the lowered position, then just lean up.

If you do manage to get into trouble and can't lean up, then when the dumbbells are in the lowered position, just drop them down. However, I encourage you not to do this often because it isn't good for your shoulders.

So that's how you get in and out of the chest press position.

  • Thanks Craig. So much better than figuring it out through trial and error!

  • Whats the tip?

or is it the safety thing (thought that was common sense - no offence)

  • lol dudes a tool, when u use heavy dumbbells u bring ur legs up to the bottom of the dumbbell and then roll forward with the dumbbells still on ur legs. its a lil tricky leaning back like that if ur not used to it

  • Youtube seem to be flooded with skinny guys teaching how to gain muscles.

  • That is NOT safe.

Those weights are also way too light to work the chest.

  • I have never tried to lift weights but I think it is time ... I HATE how my arms look in tanks these days. I think I could follow this and I would love to look strong like michelle obama.

  • lol this doesn't work with heavy dumbbells AT ALL

try doing that with any kind of 60+ dumbbell

  • Craig Ballantyne is 3/4 Cobra.
