"The Devil To Pay" is the first part of the 32 minutes epic song by American metal band Iced Earth. This 3-part song talks about the 3 days of the battle of Gettysburg during the American civil war. The battle, won by the Union, marks a big turning point in the war against the Confederates.

General Reynolds makes his way

South of town down the Emmitsburg road
The first corps are starting to show
For Buford's men, they're here just in time

The union fights defending the town
But they're outnumbered and losing ground

From the north and the west more rebels arrive
Thousands more and the fight multiplies
McPhearson's ridge and the black hats strike
A rebel sharpshooter takes Reynolds life

A very excellent epic, this song is! Definitely one of the album's highlights.

I just don't get all these guys who hate on Owens. That's like saying Black Sabbath sucked with Dio and AC/DC sucks with Brian Johnson.

I don't see how anyone can listen to songs like this and Ten Thousand Strong and say it doesn't sound awesome.

i love the emotion put into these songs its truly chilling at some points when you consider the battle and situation,valor on both sides love and respect for the other but ferocity and determination still the same because they both fight for their nation

@foottothenuts my thoughts exactly. its one of those self-fulfilling prophecies. ACDC is a complete entry level metal band with hardly any depth or intricacy, i mean fuck, EVERY song of theirs is the same fucking notes in the same fucking key.

they are only popular because they are ACDC & all those fucks think they're suuper heavy & badass, & thus it perpetuates. they aren't.

most of my fellow musicians concur, there are much better old school bands with a much more tangible influence
