In Rome New York was the viewing of the epic racist film D.W. "Mbantu" simply means community or people. A white man named Greenberg decided to attach it to a group of languages. Even by his categories, there are thousands of languages in central and western Africa that are not "bantu". Hausa and Wolof for instance. To the sister & brother that was talking about the Somalians not considering themselves "Bantu", might have it a little confused. The Bantu language actually derives from the western & central part of Africa and those particular speakers traveled to the south & southeast Africa and not the north east where you have Somalia, Ethiopia, Eritrea etc so in actuality the Somali language is not part of the Bantu family.
