I dont think there is anything wrong with a Rover V8 engined Stag, although an original Triumph V8 in fine fettle does make a glorious noise. Like people have said, the main point is enjoyment of the car, and it has to be said a Rover V8 does give piece of mind towards the owner

I was more asking whether this car was fitted with a Rover V8 as it sounds very much like one.
The original Stag engine, the one you describe, sounds ten times better in my opinion.

i had it made up by longlife exhaust in plymouth. i am thinking of going to prescott hill climb in may if you are there.....
