  • Hi, i have question, i have a large labrador retriever , i put him on the treadmill slowly increasing the speed until it reaches 6 mph, for 30 minutes, is that too much or too fast? thanks.

  • @Estebanfuturo Every dog is different so the best way to gauge the speed and duration of the workout is to monitor the dogs behavior during the workout. If they begin to show signs of struggle keeping up, fading to the back, stumbling, excessive panting, or gate changes - I will slow down or begin the cool down process. I also prefer to use incline over speed to work the muscles and burn off the energy vs. running them at high speeds. Good luck!

  • my dog was running on it fine, until I increased the speed too quickly and she fell off. Now she's not nearly as into the treadmill anymore. She jumps off every minute and would need to be coaxed to get back on, then jumps off again. Is there a way of fixing this? or her treadmill running career (?) is over?

  • @tai1girl Her career on the treadmill is not over however you will have to start out by introducing this from stage one. I would recommend visiting our website (youtube restricts URLs in a reply) so visit our main youtube page and click on the url for mndogtraining and click on resources / articles / treadmill training your canine. scroll to the bottom of the article and click on treadmill training your canine instructions part 1. You can also email me direct with questions. Josiah

  • how did u train your dogs

to use the treadmill, i tried

with my dog but she kept

spreding her arms and slowy fell off

    any suggestions or tips?

    PS,, great video

  • Start with the dog on leash, slow pace, short sessions (5 - 6 minutes) and after a week or so your dog will begin to figure. This is when you can increase speed or use the incline. It takes 4-6 weeks of boot camp training before our dogs are able to run on their own.

  • It's a safety hazard to have a treadmill backed against the wall. Please move it away from the wall for your safety and for the dogs' safety.

  • Take your dog outside for a walk, or a run.

  • @neumank9academy I think he means your never supposed to put the back end of a treadmil to a wall, because if you trip itll just be throwing you against it

  • nice. great to see someone who knows what they are doing. love it.

  • My dog will only stay on the treadmill with treats; I've tried to take the treats slowly away but it doesn't help. I can't keep him on it for more than a minute; if he doesn't get treats he gets off. If we leash him he'll fight and stop. He does not like to feel forced to do anything. Do you have any tips that might help us?

  • lol @ mmantech. All dogs are predators not just GSD's. Where do u think they get their meat in the wild?
