So i take it i was the only one with a stupid smile throughout the video, wondering how in the world does this all come together.

I have a final tomorrow.........thx and wish me luck :D

E for a plane doesnt depend on pi. k can be written as 1/(4*pi*epsilon naught) therefore pi cancels

Yes,Exact same" force per unit charge"(Electric field),no matter what the height may be.Might sound confusing at first but now its mathematically proved so cut it out :)

Nicely explained, thanks again Sal :)

@chaoscontrot ...thanks dude!!

Yes, that's technically true that because we're talking about a plate and not a ring, you would expect for the shape to matter. However later on in calculus we learn that over infinite space, or when taking a certain amount of space, and dividing it into infinitely small pieces, the shape of the pieces does not matter because they are infinitely small, only the number is what matters, and the tiny difference is negligible. So you're right, it's because the plate goes to infinity.
-
but here we intend to find the electric field due to infinitely charged 'PLATE'....and we have been doing all the calculation taking 'RING'..as the element....and integrated it from radius 0 to infinity....
one reason that i can think of is maybe if we are talking about infinite things ...we need not care whether its a square or circle....because its infinite anyways...
i want to know if there is anything more /different from what i think...
-
so in otherwords, no matter what height a test-charge is, it will always be influenced the EXACT SAME force from the plate???

I feel like I could have moved my B to an A in Physics last year if I would have known about these videos.

actually it doesnt depend on pi. Because K is defined as 1/(4*pi*epsilon). the 2 and the pi disappear, so the field depends on nothing but the charge density divided by two times the permeability of vacuum
