Assalamu alaikum. I have so much respect for the sheikh, but I am surprised and confused to hear this. I live in USA and orthodox Jews ( ahl al kitab) eat only the meat they slaughter themselves. Can anyone explain, pls? Are there 2 types of Ahl Alkitab: those who follow the scripture and those who don't, or what?

Walaikum asSalaam Warahmatullaahi Wabarakatuhu Akhi all Christians and Jews are people of the book, and they are disbelievers. We have been given a Rukhsah - or allowance - from Allah as part of the Deen being made easy for us to eat their slaughterings. And the Ayah the Shaikh refers to is in the beginning of Surah al Maidah - refer to the tafseer to understand it better. May Allaah give you the tawfeeq.

@raashidgoyal Assalam 'aleykum, the rukhsah was made for the people of the books on the time of the Prophet peace be upon him. We all know thet they dont use the same metods today like they used to do on that time. Today they use electrecity and strangle the animals before slaughtering them and that is not accordin to the shari'ah.

@AhmadBinSultan Wa'alaikumusSalam Akhi when you are aware of someone killing the animal in such a way it is then Haram. What the Shaikh is saying is that you don't need to check that, this is ta'ammuq in the Deen, going too far, and in the US the animals are normally slaughtered acceptably (as per people who work in major slaughterhouses). In any case if someone doesn't eat except Shar'i meat that is good, but it is not correct to make the Christians' etc. meat haram. Wallahu A'lam.

الشيخ العثيمين رحمه الله أجاب على قدر السؤال وهو أنه يجوز أكل ذبيحة أهل الكتاب وهو يقصد طبعا ذبيحة الحيوانات التي أباح الله عز وجل أكل لحومها والله تعالى أعلى وأعلم
