Those police were OK,, and they didn't drag you off to the cells,, so no probs there, other than a bit of a grilling for acting in an odd way (no shoes would seem odd in this day and age to people who are known for their polished black leather footwear). Most cops just get on with their jobs and that can mean dealing with some very nasty people, horrible accidents and vile crimes. There are some bad police who get off on power trips or are just thugs, but you get bad people in all lines of work.
