@tallkeithatl I've seen your previous replies as well. The reason I said that anyone is entitled to their opinion is because each individual interpretes songs according to their own experiences and their own personal views about different aspects of life. To you this song reflects Christianity, to other it reflects the form of a woman. Neither of them is wrong nor disappointing.

@elenacy Among the lessons that John learns is "If you want to kiss the sky better learn how to kneel" which as on HTDAAB refers to prayer. The dive in the rain is about baptism that John will perform. It is also loosely based on the portrayal of John from Oscar Wilde's play Salome, who's dance leads to the death of John the Baptist in Mark 6. They had even recorded a song called Salome that is on a B-side at the time.

@elenacy Google the lyrics and read them, and honestly tell me you think it's about a woman.

@elenacy True, but U2 are Christians, at least 3 of them. I don't think the song is shallowly about a woman, much less a belly dancer. Of course, "mysterious ways" is a Biblical reference to how God can work.

@tallkeithatl everyone is entitled to interprete the song as he wants :)

One day you will look...back
And you'll see...where
You were held...how
By this love...while
You could stand...there
You could move on this moment
Follow this feeling
Kind of sounds like "Footprints", no? And no, I am not a Christian.

Johnny take a walk with your sister the moon
Let her pale light in to fill up your room
You've been living underground
Eating from a can
You've been running away
From what you don't understand...
Love

This video is so disappointing, anybody who had read the lyrics would know that Bono is not talking about a woman, "she" is the Spirit of God, and I mean that in a generic spiritual sense. "if you want to kiss the sky better learn how to kneel, on your knees boy (humble yourself)." Using a belly dancer in this was a stupid, cheapening effect on the song's moving message.
It's alright, it's alright, it's all right.
