He conducted actual espionage during the second world war, he killed Nazis, knew Ian Flemming, who wrote James Bond, the fact that he was an actual spy makes him playing a villain in a James Bond movie all the more interesting. During the filming of The Lord Of The Rings, he instructed Peter Jackson in the proper reaction of a man being stabbed in the back.
Count Dooku was probably one of his weakest roles, and that's counting all the B-movies he's made.
