3. Black Grass. 2009
Duration: 01:04
Original format: Uncompressed animation

Description:
Imagine a space so beautiful it makes you throw-up.
Build a place so delirious you feel at home there.
Raise the feeling of unreality to a physical, expressed unreality. Transmit it.
"Force the inherent invisibility of external things until this same invisibility becomes a thing."
This very short video is a photography-based animation, where movement, time, and spatial relationship are defined by the deliberate distortions in the process of blending a photo sequence.
The pixels from one image are smoothly dragged and melted into those of the next one. Buildings and objects acquire impossible organic qualities, and the animations become almost sculptural. The affordances* of spaces and structures are only dependant on the emotional state of the subject, and on the inner logic, or absurdity of each piece.
The human is both isolated and confronted by the absence of any visual certainty, achieving a sense of action and of state of being unconditioned by the circumstances. Obsessive situations are fabricated, amplifying each individual action, and transforming the narrative into poetic by repetition and rhythm.
______________
* Psychologist James J. Gibson originally introduced the term in his 1977 article The Theory of Affordances and explored it more fully in his book The Ecological Approach to Visual Perception in 1979. He defined affordances as all "action possibilities" latent in the environment, objectively measurable and independent of the individual's ability to recognize them, but always in relation to the actor and therefore dependent on their capabilities.
