I still think he's an asshole, but he's got a point there. Before the end of WW2, there was an opportunity to divide the territory. The arabs, being a majority at the time, would get a huge part of the territory (I'm sorry, I don't remember where I read this. Somewhere on wikipedia). BUT the arabs themselves rejected that proposal, they wanted no jewish state. In any case, that was a long time ago, and nothing he said is an excuse for what's being done to the palestinians.

33 years on and W Bank Palestinians still can't vote, Israel is still, very much, a garrison state and Netanyahu (and all other Israelis) have yet to solve the demographic dilemma of an Arab majority. Ben Gurion said it best: Israel wants 3 things: the land (from the river to the sea), democracy and a Jewish state. They can only have two of them.
