  • I saw that same GE without the fuel tank in another video. is that some kind of slug?

  • @RailfanTube ...I don't think so: 1) they do remove some tanks if not needed (I've seen that before), 2) a slug would normally not have a cab.

  • Why didn't you get a better shot of UP 167?

  • Because: 1) I didn't know the train was coming; it was a spontaneous video, and 2) I was in the street.

  • The $64,000 Question - how far does a railroad's property extend on a street running rail? I get a lot of laughs out of even so-called omniscient rail buffs in such far-off the mark retorts.

  • Likely it is a public easement.

  • Yep! The "unit without the fuel tank" is, of course, a rebuilt primer-painted Ex SP Dash 7, to whom 30 were rebuilt, and most are stationed or positioned throughout Texas, Arizona, and California! (I live in El Paso, Texas, and I usually see about 3 to 5 of these sugs with other switchers in my local yard!)

  • @RailfanTube It's a CCRCL or "sled". Basically an old GE B23-7 or B30-7 with it's diesel prime move, generator, fueltank, and traction motors removed, and a load of radio-control gear installed. They are still used with the genset locos to provide "remote control" capability without needing to install the radio gear in the active switchers themselves. (Otherwise, if a radio-equipped switcher went down for maintainence, it'd take the radio gear with it... :-( ). Google "UPY CCRCL" for more...

  • You can tell it's LA because every engine and car is tagged with graffiti.

  • WHOAH!!!! Is this the track that crosses Katella Ave near the 5 freeway?

  • That's a freaky transition at :15!

  • The lead loco is seriously tagged up
