The audio sounds doctored (probably done by the TV station prior to airing). He said Black.

:) Not to harp, but David corrected in the same way that Rick corrected -- by catching the mispronunciation and moving directly to the intended phrase ("Rick Santorum"; "people's lives"). I'm willing to bet that D quickly forgot having said "lick", because in his mind it was just a clumsy anticipation of "lunatic", not an actual word. As for Santorum's vowel, I'm definitely hearing a long "i" cut just short as he attempts the phrase again. But I've been wrong before. Peace.

point taken, but i dont necessarily mean a significant pause but it would definitely be audible. also to me it sounds more like a short 'a' sound like apple rather than an 'i'. & also take the example you gave about David, he immediately corrected himself, weak connection i know but there are very few time anyone makes a mistake when speaking in a public forum & does not address it in some fashion even if they just take a split second pause. but i see where youre coming from.
