A section of Members of parliament now want Deputy Prime Minister Musalia Mudavadi and Nairobi Mayor Geoffrey Majiwa to step aside over the controversial purchase of the proposed land for a new cemetery in Athi River. According to a report tabled in parliament by the departmental committee on local authorities, the two did not closely monitor the purchase of the 120 acre parcel of land which cost the government 260 million shillings before authorization. The report also proposes that former Nairobi Town Clerk John Gakuo, under whom the transaction took place, be interrogated by the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission. Chris Thairu reports.
