i would say federers prime was 2000-2008 then nadal started to take over, but nadal has always been best on clay

@telmolicious talking more about Fed keeping up with Novak rather than Rafa, since he was the clear dominant player last year and the strongest opposition he faced the entire year was from grandpa Fed, not counting the season post-US Open.
The only time Fed will beat Rafa is indoors, because then weird bounces, wind, and sunlight all get factored out and it comes down to who is more technically sound. Plus, he has confidence indoors; he lacks it against Rafa everywhere else.

@telmolicious Yeah, true enough. I mean, I don't think Roger will ever fix the H2H against Rafa - the matchup is too hard. I know most people disagree, but to me tennis is all about matchups over who the better player is. It's why Nadal used to have trouble against Blake, it's why Fed could push Novak to the brink last year while Nadal couldn't, and it's why Fed can amazingly breeze past Delpo in 3 sets and then lose to Rafa the next round. But when I made that comment, I was...

@sasook well ... rafa has always had a positive h2h against fed even after their first couple of matches which were on hard.. and in that periode fed was nr. 1 while rafa was a young player ... using ur logic ... imagine how rafa would be able o play against fed if rafa was in his prime back then .. he would have thrashed him ...

@Khaled4life Actually Nadal play style is a counter to Federer but he is not better. The style that nadal use have an edge only agaisnt Fed. If you compare there records against Djokovic these few years, you will see that Roger has less difficulties agaisnt him than Nadal. The reason why is because both Nadal and Federer gameplay are not a threat to Djokovic game but Federer is better. In that case Nadal forehands are not as usefull agaisnt Djokovic since he dosent have a one-handed backhand.

@whutbrush Nadal is better than Federer on any surface in my opinion. He just has the right style to beat him its that simple. Its not about surfaces, Nadal is better. And Im a Federer fan.

@sasook Awesome comment man! Well said. Also just so you know its Federer vs Nadal tomorrow night Australian Open!

@blotobeast they played on hard court, not clay.
It's a shame that Nadal and Federer have met so often on clay, because that's where their natural style clash is exposed. Heavy spin lefty forehand to a one-handed, slice backhand. Nadal wins those rallies just because it's the natural exchange between the two. Nothing more, nothing less. After years of the same, it's gotten into Roger's head, and now he loses mentally to the guy more than anything, as evidenced by this year's FO final.
In his prime, Federer was the best of all-time.

@telmolicious I think the reason people talk like that is because of a few reasons. Fed is past his prime. Everybody knows this. He's been past his prime for quite a few years now. Yet, he's been able to stick with those 2, even now at the age of 30. So the natural logic is, if watered-down Fed at 30 (in tennis terms, an old man) can go roughly even or at least the push them more than most, imagine what would happen if he were in his prime.
That's how I see it anyway.
