One of my very favorite Keneally songs, "2001" is reminiscent of The Beach Boys "Holland" period, and perhaps other early 70's piano-driven pop classics. With it's lush and pretty harmonies and tight chord structures, another of my favorite artists, Todd Rundgren also comes to mind. This beautiful song speaks of travelling and returning home in an ancient, yet familiar manner. It's hard to believe that this lovely tune was composed and played by the same guy known for ripping heads on guitar with artists like Steve Vai, Frank Zappa, and DETHKLOK. Mike is like that, though, inhumanly eclectic. Just when you think you've got him figured out, he does something completely different, new, and fresh. Keneally is truly a rare breed; an artist that is not afraid to experiment and explore new textures and territory. This clip was shot at Johnny D's Uptown Bar & Restaurant in Somerville, Massachusetts. As usual, the infamous Johnny D's gremlins were present in full effect this evening. However, That didn't prevent any of us from enjoying this brilliant and wonderful performance by Mike and the band. This video was filmed with the permission and blessing of the ever-generous Mr. Keneally. I am both honored and elated to have been in his presence numerous times since 1988. The man is a marvel to behold, honestly. Thanks for everything over the decades, Mike. I love you, bro!
