i love this scene....grenadier company of the Royal Sussex, bearskin mitres, even the elusive handmortar wielded by a senior NCO 1:12 (probably inaccurate especially on campaign in America) and the fire discipline of the 35th - as good an example of an actual 18th century company in combat as I can think of....guiding by the right oblique, platoon fire etc.

One thing I like about this scene is that it schows Duncan Heyworth as heroic, as he was in the novel, not as a jerk as he was in most of this screenplay, his heroic sacrifice in the end notwithstanding.

I can see why this was a deleted scene. Because it didn't make sence. What's the point of a diversion by Maj. Heyward when the savages and French fur traders are watching the back of the fort, expecting a courier run, knowing the English are getting low on supplies. Pointless and irrelevant.

@londonmarc1 Yeah you mentioned that the Anglos had superior Naval support. I guess this was after the defeat of the Spanish Armada, when England became the best Navy.
