I think our friend below means that the music was composed by the Afghan musician and singer Ahmad Zahir, rather than it being an Afghan song, Afghan music uses the modal scale, not the pentatonic sacle as heard here. Of course, I may be wrong

It is an old story. For what I know it was recorded in France in 1974 or 75 and the guys who made the record are friends (some of them)

I recorded it in 1975 and it was a big hit in Japan as well.

Now, I don't know who was first. The afghan singer or the french fellows but well....

this guy i mentioned his name, Ahmad Zahir who was from Afghanistan, he died 33 years ago, and 4 years before his dealth he sang this song, you could be right, but it is great to know about this song, if Who orginally composed it, Must be Urs. but thanks adn great Work .......

Well, You were right. The guys did take the song and made a hit but the composer is:

Bimbo Jet was a French disco group led by Claude Morgan and Laurent Rossi that gained international fame in the summer of 1975 from the song, "El Bimbo". The tune to "El Bimbo" is "Tanha Shudham Tanha", composed by the Afghan musician and singer Ahmad Zahir
