Steel Band, Gen. John Sticker, Middle School

I have had the pleasure of knowing Jason and his wife Jeanette Adams since they have been teaching at General John Stricker Middle School. I met them because my wife, Becky teaches Math there as well. Excellent teachers that do not get enough recognition for all they do. Jason, filled with excitement and a great love for what he does is reflected in all that he does. I was rewarded to see this performance, the love in his heart, and the excitement in his smile. The students are very fortunate to have him as well as the teachers. Not to be forgotten are the students who put extra hours in to make it happen. Thanks for their efforts too. View the video to see the orchestra and the steel band performing. I felt like Jimmy Buffet would show up at any moment.

The Stricker Steel Band consists of 7th and 8th grade musicians from General John Sticker Middle School in Dundalk, Maryland. Each of the twenty-five members is also a member of the school band, chorus, or orchestra program. Jason Adams founded the Stricker Steel Band in 2000 with only four drums. These were used drums from another fantastic steel band, the Catonsville High Steel Band. Their director, James Wharton was a huge help in their development. During the past decade, the Stricker Steel Band has grown in instrumentation and musical complexity. The steel band now tours throughout the state performing approximately ten shows a year. The hard work and dedication of these students helps spread the spirit of pan (steel drum) to everyone we meet. The Stricker Steel Band will participate in an exciting concert called Panorama. It is an evening of steel drum music featuring five or more steel bands from throughout Baltimore County. This year's Panorama will be held on March 30, 2011 at Parkville High School at 7:00pm. If you want to be rewarded as I was come see the steel bands from Stricker MS, Catonsville HS, Parkville HS, and Sparrow's Point HS, amongst others!
