Klahowya is an expression of welcome with deep roots in the aboriginal culture of the West Coast. It literally means 'welcome' in a language created for the sole purpose of allowing the many tribes and traders to communicate. Of the 500 or so words in that tongue, Klahowya is the universal greeting.
It is also the thematic focus of a special three-course menu at The Fish House in Stanley Park being offered until September 6, 2010.
Paired with wines from the First Nations winery, Nk'Mip Cellars and anchored by Chef Karen Barnaby's honest mastery of simple seasonal sustenance, the Klahowya menu shines - especially through the words of those behind its creation.
