Float flying off Lake Michigan on a rare calm day on the big lake. the video was taken by my son using his FLIP video camera. The plane is a 3dhobbyshop.com EBT (electric basic trainer) with Seaplane Supply 30" foam floats. The floats are covered with Ultracote and weigh about 6 oz. Power is provided by a EF Torque 2818-900 outrunner motor with a Hobbywing 40a esc using Gens Ace 3s/2600 lipo batteries. The plane has about 140+ flights on it all with floats.
Due to the zoom limitations of the FLIP video camera and the small LCD screen my son had a challenging time tracking the float plane. I decided not to add music and leave the sound natural so you can hear the waves lapping on the beach. You also can hear mhy son and his buddies talking and near the end of the video you hear them reciting lines from a scene in the Indiana Jones "Last Crusade" movie. It's the scene where Indy's dad (Sean Connery) shoots the rudder off the tail of the biplane they steal from the zeppelin.
Hope you enjoy the video.

  • damn I need one of these. Looks super relaxing to fly and is very agile. How does it do in wind?

  • @chatch15117, It's good to about 10 to 15 mph. More than that and you have to be real careful not to let it get blown over.

  • Looks like dad's got the inverted down :) Good vid, I love watching RC and float planes for that matter.

  • Awesome setup, enhanced by excellent piloting. Those floats seem just right for that plane. It pops off of the water, but doesn't seem to bounce on landings.

Thanks for posting a great vid!

  • Great Flying! The plane is a excellent float plane.

  • They work off snow in the winter as well!

  • marvelous!

  • Awsome dude. You can hear the waves hitting shore and hear the electric motor as well. You have gotten good use out of that plane.
