Virtual currency is a really bad term to associate with bitcoin because of what virtual by strict definition implies and evokes in people's mind (artificiality, impermanence). Take virtual reality: we use the word virtual to denote that it's an imitation of reality; the fact that virtual reality as we know it is only generated/maintained by digital electronic computers is completely incidental to it's virtual status. Bitcoin is a REAL, digital crypto-currency and not an imitation currency.
