www.playWinningBaseball.com. Many young players don't know how to properly dive after ground balls. This drill is simple but effective in teaching the body control into the dive, glove adjustment to the hop, and recovery needed to make this athletic play.

  • You are right...Most six year olds are not ready for this, but a few are. It would be more as a fun drill at camp where they get dirty. They think diving from their knees after baseballs is FUN! We do it all the time and get them all pumped up and excited. Of course we roll the ball super slow or even start with a stationary ball for the players who have no chance of stopping a rolling ball. We use tennis balls for the youngest age groups to avoid injury and reduce fear.

  • I don't think 6-year-olds are ready for this. I have a hard-enough time keeping them on their feet to catch ground balls they don't have to dive for. This would be OK for 12 and up, though.
