This work in progress focuses on Border Field State Park in San Diego, California. The park marks the southern-most point on the West coast of the continental United States, located exactly where the United States, Mexico and the Pacific Ocean meet. The existing fence still allows for face-to-face communication across the border, making this an important gathering place for families that have been separated due to immigration status. Border Field State Park is also a significant Native American cultural site, as well as a fragile ecological habitat. Washington politicians and the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) recently decided to unilaterally suspend all environmental regulations and ignore local concerns in order to construct a 150 foot wide triple fence extending into the Pacific Ocean, destroying this last remnant of what was originally known as Friendship Park. Our film shows the beauty and diversity of the park from both sides of the border, and explores current policy decisions and their consequences that are framed within anti-immigrant and national security rhetoric. It contains interviews with families, activists and others concerned about the future of this unique and special place.

  • I love it when he says its the last remaining wall. Like no other country has borders or North Koreans aren't prisoners in their country when many of them have family in south Korea.

  • I guess your triple fence can also keep the Jonas Brothers from being heard down south... noise goes both ways!

  • @tmla as of right now they are. It's under construction. It is being extended 368 yards into the ocean, it will be made out of steel resistant to salt water and will last another 40 years.

  • @rvera88 cause Canada doesnt have drug cartels and canadians dont want to come to the US cause we already live in good conditions.

  • ok, that crappy fence seems so easy to cross, skinny people can go right through. or you can just swim a few meters and go on the other side. they should of extented the fence till deep in the ocean

  • @miles2057 thats why there are sonar buoys in the ocean just of the coast of IB to prevent them from making landfall on the coast.

  • If the Mexicans crossing the borders at night can be spotted with infra red, why don't they buy a small scuba oxygen tank and flippers and swim from a distance back on the Mexico side and swim as far as possible on the US side without coming up at day or night.

I'm sure with a small tank and flippers, someone could travel a few miles with ease.

  • you can still visit this spot. The park is open from 6am to 10pm however the Mexmunjom and the Joint Security beach are open from 7am to 7pm daily. MAC Circle is open to tourist on SAT and SUN from 10am to 2pm. All communication with the other side is prohibited in any way shape or form.

  • @reprobacious Not much of a difference.

  • @fontanaman13 Because even though the racist bigots are louder and have a lot of power, the nice friendly Americans still outnumber them.

And you can make more money here, so most Mexicans will deal with the stupid so they can feed their families.

  • @WertzOne Well I guess that's another way of looking at it, lol...depends upon who's doing the building though...
