  • If you learn western armenian you are making many of the letters practically useless in the alphabet...

I suggest you learn eastern armenian( the original armenian) if you want to fully learn the language

  • @H34vYM374L ... Let me guess, learn Eastern Armenian in California ... ha ha ha ...

  • @witheddie

... you can learn it wherever you want, as long as there is someone to teach it to you or if you have the means of learning it.

  • @H34vYM374L Exactly, and that what we trying to do ... Just because you know Eastern Armenian that does not make it better but another way of speaking ... every language has varition ...

  • @witheddie

No, you have it mixed up. If I make a language and you take it speak it differently, then yes that is speaking it differently i suppose but the way I spoke it if it was mine to begin with that would not be a different way of speaking it, rather THE way to speak it. Unless you want to rip it off and call your version your own language. With that said I didn't use the word better. I said that Eastern Armenian is THE Armenian language.

  • @H34vYM374L My friend, I don't need negative input, you could show us how you pronounce these in Eastern so we all learn sonething and compare between East and West ...

If you live outside of the Republic of Armenia, is more practical to learn Western Armenian, which is the Armenian spoken by the Armenians of the diaspora. And of course if you visit Armenia you have to learn Eastern Armenian.

None is better than the other.

  • This is western Armenian pronunciation.

  • "ւ", named HUN or VUN is generally used as an auxiliary letter. It is never used as the first letter in the word. It is used after the VOH to achieve the sound OO ("ու" as in լուռ, սուրճ), it is used after the INI to achieve the sound U ("իւ" as in հիւր, կապիկութիւն). It also replaces the VOH-HUN if the word is broken up at the end of the line (տողադարձ) during printing, for example, Աստուած becomes Աստ-ւած:

  • "Վ", named VEV, is always pronounced as VEE. It is used in the beginning of a word to achieve the V sound before any vowel except the "ո" (VOH), and also after the VOH to achieve the sound OV. Examples: Վարդ, վերմակ and կողով, վորովայն:
