Syrian students talk of their lives and futures. They invite everyone to come to Syria and Damascus.
However, not all young men and women in Damascus speak such excellent English. An American will meet many, many Syrians in Damascus who would enjoy speaking with Americans -- but they do not speak or understand English at the level of these students. An American who speaks basic Arabic will expand their Arabic through direct conversation with the people of Damascus.
Trade English for Arabic. Offer to help the Damascenes with their English in return for their instruction and patience with your Arabic.
To American women: Syrian men want access to the world. Travel restrictions limit their contacts in Europe and the United States. Men will propose marriage for the 'blue ticket' -- your passport.
To American men: If you speak to a Syrian woman, she will have her father on one side of the couch and her brothers in chairs throughout the salon. They also will want the 'blue ticket' to Europe and the United States. You will be expected to demonstrate your future intentions, your financial horizon, and your willingness to accept Syrian culture. The young women in the video want cute husbands, children, and the world -- but their family will judge if you qualify to speak to their daughter.
I tell men this from experience with Syrian families.
And Syrian men? I have heard many stories from foreign women.
