Clyde Cleveland explains: 1) charts reveal that as Federal spending has increased, SAT scores continue to decrease. 2) Gary Bauer, former Undersecretary of Education, says that 75% of the money collected for the education budget stays in Washington DC. 3) In the 1830s when Tocqueville visited America, he was impressed that America's literacy rate was 90 to 95 percent, higher than any other country at that time (France was about 5%). The reason was b/c the United States had locally controlled community schools instead of top-down federal control of the school system. For these reasons and more, the Department of Education needs to be abolished.

  • ABSOLUTELY eliminate the entire Department of Education, with its $63.7 billion budget. Education should be administered on the state & local level only. How much of that federal money do you think actually comes back to the schools? Keep state money in the states, and use it for the children, not to support a superfluous layer of federal bureaucracy.

  • Glad this video is there! The DOE needs to be abolished.

  • It appears to me that the US of A has many structural issues to reform. Education is only one of them.
