  • replaced the map sensor twice.

  • to finish up the way it smokes on the high rpm like that its almost a fuel pressure related problem. Like I said very rare I have seen this issue be computer or electrical issue maybe 1 out of 30. It always hard to trouble shoot over the internet but I have worked for Cummins 2 years in the shop and 8 years in the field. These engines are so popular the run them in the Freightliner FL series also. I hope I have helped you post a comment when you get it fixed to let us know what it was.thanks.

  • Well i have a FASS fuel system with. The pump never see less than 15psi. I have big injectors, head work, cam, HRVP44 inj. pump. I have swapped out everything. I just put a new engine harness on the truck. The only other thing it can be is the cam. If so it was put in a tooth off or it isnt ground right.

  • sent the 5 month old HRVP44 back to the shop and was sent back ok. And it did it with the old pump

  • changed them out 3 times

  • @jktcummins FUEL PRESSURE!!! lol

  • injector ?

  • nice truck, nice video

  • check ur map senser if its loose or unpluged to make more smoke it will do this

  • Did you find out what was wrong?

  • adding to what I was asking get some really good automatic trans fluid like dextron 3 and a small bottle of Lucas diesel injector cleaner mix it togeather and put it your tank when you fill it up and run it in rare cases have I seen this be a computer or electrical issue. the way it spits and sputters on the high side of the engine it sounds like a fuel pressure problem are blockage from the relief valve not opening to allow a high flow of fuel in.

  • I know you sent the vp 44 to test and it came back good, have you checked your lift pump that is the number cause for fuel related failures on these engines. Check the fuel relief valve that screws out and see what it looks like. How many miles do you have on the engine? I know you prop already changed the fuel filter in it was it dark like oil in the fuel are how about fuel in the oil check for it also. Do you have excessive blow by coming out you crank case breather bottle?
