A short film adaptation of Kurt Vonnegut's "Harrison Bergeron", 2081 depicts a dystopian future in which, thanks to the 212th Amendment to the Constitution and the unceasing vigilance of the United States Handicapper General, everyone is "finally equal...." The strong wear weights, the beautiful wear masks and the intelligent wear earpieces that fire off loud noises to keep them from taking unfair advantage of their brains. It is a poetic tale of triumph and tragedy about a broken family, a brutal government, and an act of defiance that changes everything.

2081 features an original score composed by Lee Brooks and performed by the world-renowned Kronos Quartet (Requiem for a Dream), narration by Academy Award Nominee Patricia Clarkson (Far From Heaven, Goodnight and Good Luck), and stars James Cosmo (Braveheart, Trainspotting), Julie Hagerty (Airplane!, What About Bob?) and Armie Hammer (The Social Network).

  • This might have been a lovely short story but $2.99 for 26 minutes and not much content was not worth it. Sorry.

  • Excellent

  • YOUTUBE VIDEO PLAYER is absolute crap. Do not charge for something you can not deliver youtube. shame shame.

  • Marvelous. Absolutely Marvelous. A wonderful rendition.

  • Fun fact: the "Live free or die" quote is the state motto of new hampshire.

Anyways, amazing story and awesome movie rendering. Thank you, Vonnegut!

  • @mlacy123 Something is wrong with your player...the movie is over at 26:38.

  • youtube rentals suck...never again. I love Mr. Vonnegut!

  • @mlacy123 It wasn't really over - mine played for about 14 minutes, then said it was finished and at 26:38... I slide it back to 0:00 and refreshed the page - and it started again so I could watch the whole thing and skip ahead to the part I was at.

  • -.- when I go fullscreen it mutes.... the hell is that

  • It's refreshing to view an adaptation of a short story that doesn't attempt to do too much.

Teachers: Great adaptation of the short story. Provides excellent content for class discussion and comparison/contrast essays.
