Practicality is the lighter weight (from lack of brake(s) and gears). And the complete control of your bike. If you ever ridden a fixed gear before you would know how it feels to be in complete control of your speed but you clearly are a BIKE SNOB.
stop crying.

HOW IS IT MORE PRACTICAL?
THEY HAVE NO BRAKES!!!!
'Fixed gears' are for indoor racing on track.
Whats the practicality? being able to cycle backwards? or bunny hopping on one wheel?
surely a pogo stick would be more PRACTICAL for that?
Face it you ride a fixie because you think they're TRENDY and you want to FIT IN

Why don't people just stop hating on fixed gear bikes and start hating on gas guzzling SUVs instead. Idiots

well, more real road bikes for me i guess. i just built a 10 pound road bike for little more than $1000 but i can't do any tricks. i guess i'm lame. i know i'm not popular.

get some flatland bmx bikes, they are so much better to handle than the "bikes" (wich look more like scrap metall to me) you are riding in the video

no no noo, there are all ages out there. I have seen people from 10 to 60 riding all kinds of bikes. Yesterday i saw a 60ish old man and his wife both riding fixed gears and loving it. And along side them was a dude riding a 21 speed road bike. The ages are all over and thats why i love the bike scene in portland. I loove my fixie but I also love my 10 speed road bike. The fixie is more fun and practical, but some times i like to rock my 10 speed.
