When a government is locking up your children is'nt time we protect them from the Government? Or as Howard Zinn states to disobey with civil disobedience.

Two topics this week:
1) Housing First
2a) The ACI and the imprisonment of 17 year old individuals
2b) Mandatory Minimum Sentencing

1) HOUSING FIRST
Many national groups are now talking about the possibility of ENDING homelessness. Is that really possible?

Recently, I spoke with Eric Hirsh, Rhode Island Coalition For The Homeless (RICH) and Professor of Sociology, Providence College about Rhode Island's "Housing First" approach.

If you are concerned about homelessness--and you should be---do not miss this segment.

2a) THE ACI AND 17 YEAR OLD INDIVIDUALS
2b) MANDATORY MINIMUM SENTENCING
Earlier this year, our legislature approved a "cost cutting" criminal justice measure that would move 17 year old individuals who are incarcerated from the Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF)-- or the Training School-- to the Adult Corrections Institution (ACI).

What are the fiscal and moral questions involved with this important decision??

Recently, I spoke with former ACI in-mate Bruce Reilly, Direct Action For Rights And Equality (DARE), about the budget argument, the moral question and the likelihood that the legislature will reverse this extremely controversial situation.

Bruce and I also discuss the logic-- or illogic-- of mandatory minimum sentencing in Rhode Island.

You're not going to want to miss this segment--trust me!!

The first broadcast can be seen on CW 28 (COX 9) this Sunday morning, October 28, at 9:00 am.

Re-broadcasts can be seen on COX 18 (Prov, N. Prov, Warwick, W. Warwick, E. Greenwich & Coventry) this Sunday night at 9:30 pm and......

On COX 13 this Monday evening, October 29 at 7:30 pm.

Thank YOU for your awesome support!

Remember--It's about access, it's about opportunity, it's about a better Rhode Island and a better America!

Jim

  • CPS is an satanic gang of child abusers, kidnapping children - brutally ripping them from their loving families - and sending them to foster hell, where they will likely be abused, raped, and too often murdered.

  • let the man speak the words of wisdom!!!!!!!

  • let theman speak the words of wisdom!!!!!!

  • the whole point of juvinile justice is to rehabilitate them and teach them so it will deter them from future criminal activity......i agree with this guy....you cant just throw them in jail and put a label on them....once the label is placed, the child will live up to that label. plain and simple. kat
