This building won't be completely torn down. Part of its ornate facade, (even its signature smokestack!) will be used in the base of a midrise apartment building on this site, in Old Town on Wells one block north of Division where Scott dead-ends into Wells.

  • Anybody remember Chieftain Pontiac in (I think) Winnetka, the tiniest storefront dealer of any kind I ever saw? It was around in 1980; after that, I don't know.

  • @artistmac Chieftain Pontiac on Western Ave south of wilshire. Was one of the largest salea dealers in so cal. Originally on 4100 S Vermont On LA moved to Western Ave

  • @8932yolo Wow! There were two of them! In any case, "Chieftain" is a very appropriate name for a Pontiac dealer.

  • It was Tower Oldsmobile. There's a commercial for them on YouTube from 1988, and those same highrises are in the background of the outside shot of the showroom. All the cool urban Chicago showrooms - City, Drexel, Midway, Ferrell-Hicks and Circle Chevrolet, Lesly, Bert Weinman and Litsinger Ford, Morden and Crown Buick, Bell Auto Imports, Hanley Dawson Cadillac, Perillo, Emil Mares and Tony Piet Pontiac, State and Kronon Lincoln-Mercury, Balzekas Chrysler-Plymouth -- have disappeared.

  • Nice facade! Do you know what it was before Cadillac bought it?
