Introduction to wildlife filmmaking - courses at Folly Farm

An Introduction to Wildlife Filmmaking is a three-day residential course based at Avon Wildlife Trust's Folly Farm Centre set amid a stunning 250-acre nature reserve in North Somerset's beautiful Chew Valley. It's open to everyone - we welcome complete beginners and those who have some experience of filmmaking but want to learn more about the challenges of filming wildlife.




Working in small teams, students learn some of the field craft that will help them get closer to animals in the wild. Practical hands-on demonstrations of camera techniques and expert tuition get them out filming on location and workshops introduce them to the importance and practicalities of research, storytelling and sequence building. Finally, students work with experienced picture editors and producers to edit their footage and tell their story. Everyone is given a DVD of the short film they make whilst with us.

Folly Farm Centre has been newly restored and provides a high standard of accommodation with comfortable and spacious bedrooms that overlook the nature reserve and Chew Valley Lake. It's an inviting place to socialise and learn with delicious meals home-cooked using organic, locally sourced ingredients and modern facilities.
