This video demonstrates the serious save bug in v1.1 of the DQ Translations patch for DQ3r. Unlike my other video, this one is done in bsnes v063 (disproving my theory that this version of the bug was exclusive to Snes9x). Also, this video demonstrates the entire process taken to reproduce the bug, from loading the game up until the game locks up.

Oh, and sorry about the lag. bsnes and recording don't go well together.

  • so basically to avoid this from happening never save with anyone but the main character in the front? I just started playing and don't want to mess up my save

  • @gakiyarou That's correct. You can have other characters in the front slot, but when you save you have to be certain to move the hero back to the front.

  • If you save with anyone but the hero in front, you get the black box on the save/reload screen. I think that might be a key component in this bug- trying to save over the "blank" file. However, for safety, only save w/ the hero in front, and don't zoon to Baharata then waltz over to Dharma to save.

  • @redneckpride4ever You're right, actually. I did a lot of research on this bug and posted it on the DQ Translations forums; unfortunately, it doesn't look like they're going to be patching it any time soon. If you're curious, though, I actually tracked it down to having something to do with the way the English names are stored by the translation.

  • The names remind me of Dragon Warrior 4, actually!

  • @MasterInsan0 awesome thanks for the heads up. I haven't played much of this one yet, still fnishing up DQ IV for the DS, then I'll really get into this one. I loved the intro though, with the questions and the scenario, really cool beginning.

  • Damn, i can't find the patched version anywhere.
