If you really want to get into the racing side of things a 400 is ok but a 450r is race ready from the dealer you will be able to run the beginner classes with a stock 450 with no problem even higher classes depending on ur skill level i ran a 400 against 450s for years I beat them because i had more experience not because of the power but when I went to a 450 i lapped those guys that i was just barely beating on the 400 a 450 is the way to go just becareful those things are quick.
