  • Am I the only one that likes the newer version of the scene more?

  • It's strange how she looks soooooo much nicer with no makeup and her hair messy... she's beautiful, I remember seeing her at the globe in london in Love's Labours Lost and shes lovely!

I also love it when Angel says "Is it my appearence?"> aint NOTHING wrong with his appearance! :D

  • I prefer the 2008 version. I couldn't even make it to the end with the 1998! I think Tess is displayed properly in the naivety she has in the book, one of the main traits of her character. I just believe her character has been captured by Gemma perfectly whereas in the 1998 version I only saw her as a heartless woman - all the time, from the beginning. It just didn't feel right. Taking the book into consideration, this version shows Tess the way I read about her and imagined her to be like.

  • uuuurrrrggghh the violin music annoys me all i want to do is conecntrate on EDDIE REDMAYNE! nut the music spoils it

  • I hate Angel Clare; often he seems worse than Alec for hurting Tess so badly and being such a moralising bastard. She's ovvie better than both these men put together and I love that Hardy knows this

  • She is supposed to be more in a trance. She's definitely not "hypnotized-seeming". Justine Waddell communicated her hypnotized look and actions far more accurately.

  • bah! i like the 1998 version better.....

  • I cried so badly during this scene..

  • This version of the film feels more like it came from a book written by one of the Bronte sisters and not Thomas Hardy. The 98 version is way better.

  • @lnvaderKez I agree with that fact that its a tragedy because in those 'times' life was unfair; she murdered Alec for his own good. thumbs if you agree, also it is kind of weird saying to Angel '' if i die marry my sister'' weird but has a meaning; she loves Angel dearly and dosent want him to go to the wrong ladies hand which is very sweet ;] Thank you for reading my life-killing paragraph of a 2:32 minute clip on youtube

    Floralsilk over and out ;]

  • @FloralSilk I agree, Alec is indeed a piece of crap, but from what i gathered in the book she went back because Alec used her family against her and made her feel guilty, and as if it was her only choice to go back to him so that he would take care of her family who she felt responsible for :(

    it truly is a tragedy

  • I prefer the 2008 version, i think Gemma captures a more fiery nature in Tess than the 1998 version. I love how we really get the sense of strength and passion within Tess. i think without this Tess would have fallen apart. But i just wished she didn't have to die. i think she is one of the best heroines in literature!!!
