I put this little video together in October 2007 to show my camel learning how to cush (lay down) and get back up again on command. Baby is only ten months old here.
In the video you can see how I taught my camel to lay down with a gesture from a stick (tapping on him and then eventually just the ground) and vocal command. I also taught him to stand up again by gesturing up and asking. No ropes, pulleys or restraints of any kind- not even a halter and lead rope were used in the learning process. Gentle tapping and pressure reminders quickly progressed into consistent compliance with absolutely no contact of any kind.
This is an old video that I shot on an even older digital camera, so that's why it looks the way it does. I uploaded this more for nostalgia than anything, but it may benefit someone who wants to learn how to train their camel to cush.
Baby progressed farther from this to cushing on vocal command (no gestures) not long after this video was shot. You can see a short clip of that here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TJPYAEVOSak

Ahhh, the stick-to-the-back-of-the-knees thing doesn't sit right with me... I don't know... I don't think I would like it if someone did that to me.

@ShootForMars I'm barely touching him with it. Keep in mind this is a 500+ pound animal with a rough thick layer of skin and incredibly strong legs to support his massive weight- NOT a human being.

@camelsandfriends I know you wouldn't hurt him, it just looks like he's falling when it happens. I think it just makes me think of the people that actually do abuse their animals.

@ShootForMars Yeah, they sort of do look like they're falling, but that's how they always lay down regardless of a cue.

what you don't see in the video is when the camel misbehave she beats it with the stick.

@soloartist232 Definitely not. If you mistreat a camel they never forget...
