Finalizing my knife. Sealing the gap at the point the blade meets the hilt of the handle with some epoxy. Thanks Rob for the help on the epoxy and great suggestions. Next a sheath. Any suggestions?

  • my 1st Antler knife handle project used a recycled folding blade from carnival prize knife. I welded a 1/4 inch mild steel rod to the end of the blade in the form of a T and drilled a recieving hole into the antler along with a slot to keep it orientated. The slot held the T portion also and it was epoxied together. I used leather stain to brown everything and lightly sanded the high points for color contrast. Semi Gloss clear coat sealed it up. It is decorative for light duty only

  • @BornRandy62 Wow, sounds really nice. I like the brown leather stain idea too. This knife has been holding up really well. It holds and edge for a long time. I am constantly evaluating the handle design and changing it to make it more comfortable to fit my hand.

  • Very nice knife, I like the fact that it is not a type "A1 bushcraft knife".

Take care and I am looking forward to seeing the final package:o)

  • @Andersbork Thanks Rob! I wanted to make something really rustic and utilize the antler given to me by a good friend. The sheath turned out really nicely. Jhynesyahoo made a great sheath for me. I will post a vid soon. Be well my friend!

  • @KURGAN44 I used the base end of the antler next to the blade. and used the rounded concave of the spike branch base to fit the inside of my thumb. The handle has a bend to keep the blade at a downward angle toward the work. Because the mildsteel round stock is welded to the hardened knife blade it wont stand up to heavy work. But it will be a good decorative gift for somebody who needs a letter opener or sausage/cheese slicer

  • @stonybrokebushcraf Hey thank you for the comment. It was fun and I'll be working on a couple more soon too.

  • good job my friend cool

  • @wawhiker Hey thanks for the kind words my friend. This was a long time coming to finish it and post it.

  • Mixing in the bone dust is a great idea! Nicely done - thanks for sharing it with us!
