Hacked? Road Sign - WTF?

I shot this on Feb. 19, 2009 in Tampa, Florida on Bruce B. Downs near USF. I've heard of some road signs similar to this one being "hacked" to display messages warning of Raptors and Zombies or whatever. This just struck me as "strange' when I saw it.

Sorry for the poor picture quality. I shot it on a Canon SD1000 in video mode.

It says "Increased Patrols", "Lock Your Doors", "Secure Your Valuables"

UPDATE **** As of March 2, the sign is back in place. I was going in the opposite direction so I was only able to see the "secure your valuables" part.

Hacking street signs is illegal and can be dangerous. Don't do it!

They have one by the University Mall area in the median on Fowler. I really don't think it's been hacked, I think it's just because it's a bad area.

btw, if you're familiar with the area, and the areal view of the quadrants, you'll know that Bruce B Downs, Livingston, & Sinclair Hills are the dividing lines between the upper income USF neighborhoods and lower income trailer park/black/mexican areas.

Chances are, there is a contingency plan being developed to quarantine off these neighborhoods in times of emergency or flooding.

I am familiar with the area as I went to USF in the late 80s.

I just happened to make my way past the area again a day later and the sign was gone. It's just a bit strange to have that message flashing since there was nothing going on. Maybe it was "hacked".
