@mattrimkevx I definitely understand more than you do. Satellites have absolutely nothing to do with mobile phones. You could just read the manufacturers page about the weapon explaining how it works and military experts drawing conclusions on it. The biggest criticism was attributed to the necessity of having LOS to the target and long lock times of up to 30s for a "cold" unit.

@Buuub08 you understand what a satellite is right? they're not just used for mobile phones. But in any case, why are you bringing a javelin if you know the enemy is behind a ridge?

@flyingphoenix113 I had AdBlockPlus, therefore no thumbs up for you. HA !

thumbs up if you hate Youtube advertisements!

@mattrimkevx Bullshit, there is no GPS. You cant aim at something you dont see, this missile still needs LOS to the target just as any other system. The only advantage you get is the eliminated necessity to keep visual contact with the target yourself after the launch. However the long lock times typically neglect that advantage.
And how would GPS help with that anyway? GPS helps if you have an area target and know the coordinates. Getting coordinates requires a spotter.

@comentsforeveryone He doesnt. It does not work the way it does in video games. You still HAVE TO SEE the target. This is what the system has been criticized for a lot. It costs 10x more than the previous generation while offering no actual advantage. It can take up to 30 seconds to lock a target. It is also more easily countered than older SACLOS missiles, specifically by soft-kill APS.
-
oh sorry read his question wrong, basically they have a GPS so they can use satellites to lock onto the target, or you could go back to old fashion (<-- that looks like its spelled wrong to me) mortar.
-
@mattrimkevx he was asking: if a target is hidden behind something you can't see how do you know what to aim at, if there is a hill between the soldier and the tank you can't aim at it
-
@comentsforeveryone 1:50, you obviously didn't watch the whole video did you?
-
so if a target is hidden behind a ridge, how does the soldier know where to aim?
@spencerdude7 MW3??? i think the most are here because of BF3....

A 5% chance of error shouldn't be acceptable for a $20 000 missile. I get that no system is perfect, but shouldn't they at least reduce the error rate to 2 or 3 percent?
